Le Paul Guitar Auction: Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Aged Les Paul Zakk Wylde NR!

Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Aged Les Paul Zakk Wylde NR! Les Paul Guitars Auction Description: Today I'm offering a guitar that's about as rare as they come...a one-off Les Paul that has been aged like it was giving a Fender Heavy Relic a run for its money...who would order such a guitar, you ask? Well, Zakk Wylde, from the looks of it. This guitar was one of the now-famous "Roadworn" Gibson factory auction pieces. If you don't know the story, many of the custom shop prototypes, art guitars, and Artist Relations models were auctioned off to a very small and exclusive crowd, and this guitar was one of them. They all carried a "Roadworn" stamp because at auction, they had to be sold without warranty, not as new. Gibson's information at that time reads: "These will be the ONLY 170 guitars on earth that will bear this mark - indicating that it came from this historic event - it will never happen again."This particular item was one that was ordered and subsequently loaned out from the Custom Shop Artist Relations program. It was commissioned, used for a tour or two, returned, and then sold at the auction. It came from the factory as an "Aged 1960 Reissue with Tommy Iommi Humbuckers" and the auction notes show that same description. This guitar also has a very distinctive barbed-wire "Bullseye" truss rod cover. There is zero doubt in my mind that this guitar was ordered and used by Zakk Wylde. If you compare on the web to his own pictures of his Les Pauls, this guitar carries the same specs. The serial number is skewed as a G0 Guitar Center 1960 Reissue, but along with the Custom Shop aging (which was only done by Tom Murphy), it has unique factory features including the all-black plastic hardware and knobs. Even the input jack cover is black plastic. Another thing is the dark, VERY Brazilian-looking fretboard with inlays that have pointed edges like the new Reissues...I was not aware the Custom Shop was doing this premium upgrades before 2006...just goes to show you how unique this is.Ignoring all the exciting history of this guitar, it quite simply plays AWESOME. It weighs in at 9 lbs even, has little to no fret wear with extremely low action, doesn't fret out anywhere with a perfect setup, and the neck is straight as an arrow. The sound is massive and the Iommi Pickups give it a great PAF tone akin more to the Michael Bloomfield Les Paul than a shredder axe. Sounds great for blues and rock, but also jazz. Just an incredible playing guitar. It includes the original tour-used Custom Shop case and shipping box. This auction starts at just 99 cents with NO RESERVE. Bid or be sorry you didn't!
