Les Paul Guitars Auction Description: Up for auction is a 1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom Gold Top in great condition. This Deluxe has some very interesting factory original customizations, making me think it was a Gibson employee guitar. The neck and body are bound in Brasilian rosewood (which i have never seen, usually they are all plastic) and the tuners are factory installed Grovers instead of the Klusons which normally should have come with the instrument. In addition, it has first fret custom inlay either added at build time or sometime in the 70s. The person I bought the guitar from had it since 78 and says that the inlay was there from the time he got it. It's got the normal wear and finish checking of a 36 year old instrument, but it's a spectacular player and sounds great. It comes with the hard case shown. I'm not sure if this is the original case for it, but it does have the same wear as you would see from a case from the same age as the guitar. I'm not positive but it think the bridge may have been replaced, it does not seem to have the original age of the rest of the hardware. If anyone has any information about the rosewood binding or the inlay on the first fret please let me know. The experts i have had look at it have all been extremely intrigued, and as Gibson had little to no records from this period it is almost impossible find any info on it.I am not a Gibson expert, but i will try to answer any questions you might have. I am starting this auction at .99 cents so bid freely and bid often :)$50.00 Shipping.Paypal OnlyInsurance will be required as well as delivery confirmation.Shipping either be by USPS or UPSInternational bidders please contact me for a shipping quote and please include your shipping code. On Nov-28-10 at 18:28:06 PST, seller added the following information:It seems to be agreed from my own observastions and those comments from the Ebay community that this guitar has been refinished. I was finally able to locate the serial number on the back of the headstock ( 50988) and the made in USA stamp. Both were filled and finished over so they are very hard to see. It is very difficult to tell if the finish was done back in the 70's or if was done more recently and reliced. It is also agreed that the rosewood binding and the inlay were most likely not done from the factory, and probably done from the original owner. I was told that the grover tuners were common to be used in this period. I know very little about Gibson guitars, i am more of a Fender guy myself. So you probably know as much or more than i do about it.I am having a professional appraisal done on Monday to determine everything i can about it as well as value. My goal here is to sell a beautiful vintage Gibson, so i want to potential bidders to have as much info as i can give you.Thanks.On Nov-29-10 at 17:51:52 PST, seller added the following information:Attention!!!OK.So I had a professional appraisal done today to eliminate some of the questions i had about this guitar. Here are the results.First of all the serial number dictates that it is actually a 1962 ish Gibson Deluxe ( NOT Custom), Thats the good news. The bad news for the collectors out there is that all the hardware and electronics ( pots, pickups, covers, knobs, truss rod cover, etc.) have all been replaced at some point. So, along with the refinishing aspect, and the replaced binding, the only thing original to this guitar is the guitar itself. That being said, it is still a 1962 ish Gibson Les Paul Deluxe that plays and sounds amazing.I have some thinking to do, i might remove the listing in a couple of days. Let me know what you think.Thanks.On Nov-29-10 at 21:49:25 PST, seller added the following information:Last Revision. At this time i believe this to be an early 60's to early 70's Gibson Deluxe. It has been refinished, rebound, and had pretty much everything replaced at some point or another. It is as some have put it, a "players guitar"And thats the last word i have on it.:)
