Now I know what CRAZY looks like! It looks like me listing this AMAZING Les Paul on ebay with NO RESERVE! The Captain has finally LOST IT! This is one of those you never sell... and believe me that is how I intended it. But financial circumstances beyond my control offer me no other choice....so here's your chance!!!!For your bidding consideration is a piece of Gibson Magic! This is a 1-off from 2001 out of the Gibson Custom Shop Custom Direct Program officially labeled a "LP Standard Quilt/3 PU". Bursting with the best features of a number of LP models, this truly is an astonishing instrument. I included the detailed specifications from the Gibson Custom Direct listing for the instrument toward the end of the pictures below. It could be summarized as a 3PU '59 reissue with ultra-lightweight body (8.65 lbs), premium dark rosewood fingerboard, killer quilt maple top, finished in a super rare transparent blue.As the pictures show, the Maple Quilt Top is simply to die for! Edge to edge with no dropouts and nice 3D effects from various angles. This particular blue color is very alive and quite elusive, offering many shades of blue depending on lighting conditions. Primarily I would call it an 'ocean blue' or 'light blue' but it includes a range from deep dark blues to almost turquoise content depending on what mood it is in! The back/neck are also blue, with a slight greenish tint (probably the same stain color as the top showing a slightly different tint on the mahogany body.)The guitar is in excellent condition with only the few minor cosmetic imperfections it had when I acquired it. Of note: a few minor dings on the back that I couldn't get to photograph, one larger inconspicuous scratch on the lower edge of the back by the strap peg, a small scuff on the bottom side of the body by the knobs, a micro pin-prick-like imperfection on the neck by the CS logo. The finish overall is in great condition and still maintains a like-new glossy sheen. The hardware is also in excellent condition, always wiped, and has just the slightest hints of standard nickel hazing starting. See photos for cosmetic condition.Sonically, well... 10-year old wood on top of being a very lightweight body... can you say resonant? This really is an incredible piece of wood. It is very open played acoustically, delivering very musical and natural tonal characteristics. The PU's are spec'd as '57 Classics but they seem to have something "extra" relative to all other '57s I've played - just phenomenal! Can't help but wonder if they are special wound or something being for a Custom Direct guitar. And as a BONUS... I had it PLEK'd and setup to perfection by the masters atWestwood Music Center in LA last fall and it plays "like butta".Auction includes the guitar, custom shop case, and certificate/paperwork as pictured. The case has some minor scuffs/marks from normal handling - never gigged, house dweller. Please note the certificate was received from the previous owner as shown in the photos (bent/folded).The guitar is listed locally and I reserve the right to end the auction in the event of a sale. WOW getting a lot of activity on this one! 72 watchers already! Should be a fun auction!I have received a couple questions mentioning marks or water stains on the top, apparently by the tailpiece. It must be a reflection or some part of the grain pattern in the quilt maple that is standing out in the photos because the top is shiny like new with no blemishs or marks of any kind!
