Les Paul Guitars Auction Description: Up for auction here you'll find a 2002 Gibson Custom, Art & Historic Division1959 Les Paul Reissue (R-9). This Historic Les Paul is in almost mint condition. A few button/belt marks on the back (wouldn't show up on the photos) and two very tiny dings on the front are the only marks. The tail piece and pickup covers show no signs of oxidation or chalking from hand/finger oil/salt, and there are no scratch marks on the pick guard. I bought this guitar out of a collection because of its striking color and figure, and the highly sought-after year of production (2002). There were only ~300 Historic R-9's made in 2002 compared to ~2,500 in 1999, 2000+ in the year 2000, and about 800 in 2001. And this was the only year of the above mentioned to receive AAA Grade Eastern Maple as opposed to the previous, less-striking Western big leaf maple. And there are the specs as well. Unlike the other Historics, the 2002 R9s had many new (original) features this year, much like what the 2003s had universally for all Historics. While the R7s, R8s etc still had mostly 2001 specs, the 2002 R9s introduced many new features, only a few of which were shared with the rest of the line that year. Here are some I can remember: Thinner binding, tortoise side markers, newly more accurately shaped (pointed) inlays on the fretboard, thin switch washer and jack plug plastic, in line tuner mounting (rather than following the contour of the headstock) new more accurate tuner bushings, new control knobs, lightweight aluminum tailpiece, and Burstbucker 1 and 2 pickups. The original owner told me the fretboard is Brazilian Rosewood as he ordered, but Gibson will not verify this for sure. So bid accordingly. It is a very dark and non-striped board and feels like Brazilian Rosewood, but not verifiable. Comes in the original Gibson cardboard shipping box, and a way-cool Gibson Custom Shop case which looks very similar to the original 1950's Lifton cases. (Note: there is an artifact on the pic of the case's "Gibson" metal tag....It is somekind of black squiggly line (two of the actually)......the case is NOT cracked...that's just on the picture). NOTE about Burstbuckers: They were first used for the US market in 2000 on the Gary Moore Les Paul. In mid 2001 through 2002, the R8 Custom Authentic models had Burstbucker 2, 3 (the regular R8s still had 57 Classics). In 2002 the R9s and R0s had the Burstbucker 1, 2. All the other Humbuckered 2002 Historics had 57 Classics. In 2003 the Burstbucker were widely used on Historics. 57 Classics have polished magnets, and Burstbuckers have rough cast magnets. This R-9 is set-up beautifully with a very nice, low action, great intonation, no fret noise, and a palm-filling '59 "burst" profile neck that is razor-straight and sweet as can be. The Burstbuckers are Gibson's greatest take on the original PAF pickups, and this guitar really sings. It sounds as good as it looks. This R-9 is a TONE MONSTER. Sustain, gritty honk, rich harmonics, woody open-ness, all of what great Les Pauls are known for¦. and this baby has 'em IN SPADES. Again, this is a very collectible guitar and one of the prettiest examples I've ever seen. The actual color is just a bit less red and a little less yellow than my camera revealed. I even took it outside to try to get more accurate color pix. The pix are close, but they added a bit of red and yellow for some digital reason¦.It's in excellent condition, and comes with enough case candy to give you a sugar buzz. Historic COA included. I am only selling this gorgeous guitar because I have 3 kids in college this year and have been selling a lot of my vintage treasures to help keep the kids going. You've heard it before, "my loss, your gain." I put $90.00 in the shipping fees because ebay forces you to put some figure there. I WILL ONLY CHARGE YOU WHAT UPS CHARGES ME. Please contact me first before you bid if you have less than 5 feedbacks or negative feedbacks¦or I will cancel your bid. All you have to do is contact me first. Conus only. Paypal or other methods of payment (contact me first) are acceptable. Winner is responsible for shipping and insurance. I put $90.00 in the shipping fees because ebay forces you to put some figure there. I WILL ONLY CHARGE YOU WHAT UPS CHARGES ME. I do not charge for packing. I retain the right to end this auction any time for any reason, as the guitar is being advertised elsewhere. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thanks, Lee
