Les Paul Guitars Auction Description: 2005 Gibson Les Paul R8 - Historic CustomAuthentic in Washed Cherry Sunburst. The Skinny: I'll let the pictures speak for themselves! Gorgeous, book-matched grain that looks like two eyes staring outward. Beautiful Washed Cherry finish that borders on Iced Tea. Perfectly shaped '58-style neck that is a dark, rich rosewood. Straight-as-an-arrow neck that makes chords and intonation a breeze - super low action. Slightly aged hardware, pickups, binding, and finish. All the "aging" has happened naturally with time. This axe is a "Player's" dream that will be a solid companion for decades to come! I really can't emphasize how great this guitar feels in-hand... it fits like a glove and is just as comfortable as my old, beat-up Tele.Detailed Description: This guitar is from mypersonal collection and (to be honest) something that I thought I'd neversell. However, some recent opportunities are taking me on the road, and that means a lot of the guitars I've been keeping in my collection need to go. What's that mean for you? That you could potentially scorethe coolest R8 I have ever seen!!! I bought this R8 from theoriginal owner, who was an older collector. Older meaning that he was around tosee/play a lot of the original Bursts back when they were commonly in shops for 6-12k. Hetold me that he feels this R8 is about the closest to an original Burst that he has everseen. And based on the many pictures I've seen of originals, I'd have to agree with him. I'veincluded a picture of an original 1959 Burst (second picture) to compare tothis R8 (First Picture). You can clearly see just how similar they are. In10-20 years this R8 is going to be a masterpiece, just like that original Burst. There are absolutely NO issues with this guitar that affectplayability. The guitar is beginning to age extremely well. I'd say it's nowsimilar to a Murphy-aged Les Paul - I know because I own a couple LOL. The binding is beginning to "bleed" dueto lots of playing (looks great!), the hardware and pickup covers arebeginning to tarnish (also super cool), there's some light buckle-rash on the back (nothing bad),and there's some small dings and indentations on the body and headstock. None of it is major or looks bad. See pictures for verification! There are absolutely NO cracks, breaks, or repairs. Again, there isno "aging" that affects playability - this guitar is as solid as a rock. However, it now oozes character, just like a Murphy-aged axe... only for a lot cheaper. The neck is a deep rosewood and on the chunky side. It's notthe biggest Les Paul neck I've ever played - it's not uncomfortable and hard to chord - but itdoes fill your hand extremely well. This neck inspires you to play the blueswith big, confident, wailing bends. Chords are also extremely easy on this guitar. I'd say I have medium-sized hands, and I have no problem playing fast runs, chords, or big bends. Whenyou pick her up you KNOW that you are holding a '58 Les Paul. She's currentlystrung with 10's and has very low action! The neck is great, but the body is the real star. It'sbook-matched, which is always nice, but it's the unique grain pattern that Ifell in love with. I've nicknamed her "Medusa," because to me it looks like twohypnotizing eyes staring out at you. I'd sometimes play this guitar for hours just so Icould stare at the grain pattern, Haha! I don't know, maybe I'm crazy... but to me a Les Paulwith character and idiosyncrasies is a beautiful thing, and this guitar has itin spades. She weighs about 9 lbs. Everything is original - electronics, tuners, hardware, etc. Ships in original hard-shell case. Didn't come with a COAor case candy when I bought her, but whatever, that stuff doesn't make a guitar sound any better, it just gives collectors bragging rights. Right?Happy Bidding!!! I really hope she finds a great home, because she's been really good to me!!! I will Ship via FedEx with Insurance. Shipping to USA only.
