Les Paul Guitars Auction Description: For auction is a 1987 Les Paul Custom Lite in Desert Sunset Metallic finish. These instruments were manufactured by Gibson for just 3 years, 1987, 1988 and 1989. Too many E-bay sellers abuse the word "rare". I don't use that term unless it's true. I own one of 23 guitars ever made of a certain manufacture. That one is rare. These however were made in some quantity for those 3 years. That said, they were not made for 50 years or even ten or whatever. So I can only guess the production number total is limited. And I'll never understand why. This was one of Gibsons smarter productions. They took a Les Paul body style and sawed it in half. Don't let the name fool you though. This "Lite" Custom still weighs 8 1/2 pounds on my USPS scale. But that said, it's far more comfortable to play than that chunk of wood you'd normally have. For starters it's thinner yes, but it also has a tummy cut like a strat. What's more, they installed two humbuckers with master volumes for each, a master tone and then a factory coil tap switch. Want a Full bodied Les Paul Jazz player? You got it. Want a snarling Les Paul rocker? You got it. Want to get a tele sound? You got it. Gibson got it right with this model. What probably sank it is that the guitar buying public gets kind of bone headed about these things and figured it couldn't be what the 35 year old image of a Les Paul was by that time so it didn't sell that well I suppose. I've enjoyed it but I have a few too many and want to renovate the house so it's up for grabs in this no reserve auction. Use Buy it Now and you won't lose it to somebody else. I thought it would look better with a set of gold top hat knobs so I bought and installed those. The originals and the one spare top hat are enclosed in the case. It is otherwise completely original and has never had any breaks or repairs. It has no dings or dents anywhere on the body or neck. The frets are still full, a whole lifetime ahead of them bless their little souls. It has polish scratches, fine swirling types from years of being cleaned and that's all. If the finish were cleaned and buffed it would gleam like new. The only finish "flaws" are at the very edges of the headstock, visible in the photographs, where it got nicked a little by the previous owner but they're barely worth mentioning. The Gold plating has worn away a bit on areas of the PU covers and bridge but we're talking about a 24 year old guitar that wasn't sitting in some "collector who's still learning to play first position chords" display case so that comes with the territory. If you want a show piece, just buy new hardware and have the body buffed out by the local guitar shop luthier and you'll have a very new looking 24 year old guitar. A gorgeous color for this guitars finish that's not often seen on a Gibson I might add. If however you want a very nice guitar that will take you through the blues or through jazz or even rocking, then this is one very nice instrument to own.PLEASE READ ALL OF THE TERMS BELOW AS IT MAY IMPACT YOUR DECISION TO BID ON THIS INSTRUMENT.
